Axiom Rainrunner MTB Reflex 26" Disc Fender Review

I ordered these fenders with only one negative review written about them. They looked like the full tire coverage that I wanted; I tow a pet trailer with my two 11lb pups behind me, they kept getting rocks in the face. They DO NOT come with instructions, but it wasn't a bother to me at all. There is one mounting tab on front fender that was self explanatory & attached to the center of the fork. There is also two mounting holes on rear fender that secure to existing holes in bike frame, although these two holes are at the bottom front & center of rear fender. The actual support rods were a bit tricky to figure out how to mount them(I scratched my head for literally one minute), then I went to work. I have a Topeak rear disc rack, & I was able to bend the rods(by hand, & a little help with pliers) to follow the curvature of the fender, & secured the mounting bolts to where the taillamp mounts. This also could have been achieved with some 3/8" electrical harness clamps attached to my rack. However, if I did not have the rack, the attachment would been pretty straight forward, as they would have secured to the lower mounting holes on the frame, no bending would have been required.
Now, the front fender came with the same support rods & cinch bolts, but my front disc brake equipped fork shock has absolutely no places to mount any add-ons like this fender. So, all that was required is two 1 & 1/4" electrical harness clamps(the rubber insulated kind). I simply secured these around the fork tubes, some very minor bending of the rods & off I went! Granted, If you have a high end bike, this is not a desirable attachment, but my bike is in the $800 range as equipped, and I am more than satisfied with this mounting, and I am a fashion before function kind of guy.
One last thing; while these are very good fenders, they are fairly snug against my 2.2" knobby tires, & the end with the mud flap can bounce a fair amount in rough terrain. But, I am yet to here them rub in any way after 10 miles of riding! I highly recommend these fenders for the creative/mechanically minded, due to the mild challenge of mounting.
