I've used clipless pedals for the past fifteen years and bought these flat pedals to experiment with the benefits of running flats as far as improving my bike handling skills. I didn't want to drop 150 dollars on straitline pedals just to try out flats. The plastic pins grip nicely on the soles of my bmx shoes, the standard flat pedals that come with bikes really can't compare performance wise to these stolen pedals. The thermalites take a beating and are solid pedals; I was so happy with them that I bought a second pair of stolen thermalite vp pedals which have the replaceable metal pins. I have lost one pin in a dozen technical rides, but the pins are standard threaded hexhead 4mm set screws, and I am planning on replacing all of them with longer pins for a better grip.
