Jagwire Ripcord Brake Kit, Braided White Review

The other review telling people the cable is too short and to go to a bike shop is just plain wrong (at least about this kit). If you look around at the other Jagwire cable kits, this same comment is in every one. From my research, Jagwire now provides much more housing than they did with older kits. My bike uses the housing all the way from the lever to the brake along the top tube. I had WAY more than enough, probably more than enough to go along the bottom tube, and back up the seat tube. My bike uses rim brakes, not disc, but I think I had enough housing to reach disc brakes too. I have about 4 feet left over.

The cable and fittings are of top quality. The housings are lined and the wires are teflon coated, making these wires very low friction, and should never require lubrication. Everything fit together like a glove, and my brakes have never worked better. Get some good cable cutters with an awl for straightening housing end cuts, and you'll be able to do as good a job replacing your brake cables as a bike shop. Using these cables instead of cheaper cables, you'll have much better than the bike shop would install for the same or less money.

I bought 5 of these Fork Mount Carriers a few years ago, attached them to the top of a 2x12, and laid it the width of my truck bed. The forks and board lay exposed year round in the back of the truck, and the forks are still working just fine. The only rust I've seen is on the fork springs, but a little WD-40 or other such lubricant takes care of any corrosion for an entire season.

Microshift Arsis Group Set (Carbon/Black) Review

I bought this product at the end of 2011. I have put roughly 4k miles on it since then, without any faults in shifting. The shifting of this product is very positive. You won't get the subtle shifts you get with shimano or campy, but what you get is an unquestionable, and undeniably positive shift into gear *clack!* (a good thing, in my opinion). Using this product, I have never missed, or dropped my chain with front derailleur shifting. I have not tuned it, either (except for new cable stretch, which is to be expected). The shift throws of the Upshift for the FD, and the downshift of the RD are a bit long, but they're also very sure. Mind you, however, this is an older generation; the new generation (which my father has) has much shorter throws, and improved hoods...ask microSHIFT about it.

In terms of equivalents from other companies, Arsis Group is the premier group from microSHIFT. There is still work to be done to be as refined as their big brothers at Shimano and Campy, but they're very much coming along. One point the other companies cannot beat, is the price.

I started as a shimano boy, running through the ultegra series (6500 9 speed, 6600 10 speed, and 6700 10 speed), and these products are not comparable in terms of feel. RELIABILITY on the other hand is comparable. Claimed weights of ARSIS are also between DA and Ultegra, if that gets your goat.

The isolated brake, upshift, downshift levers are nice too. You're never confused, and it is very very easy to get used to.

SUMMARY:
In my experience so far you get: reliability, positive upshifts, easy downshifts, light weight, and excellent pricing.

Minoura 28-35mm Standard Handlebar Spacegrip-3 (Black) Review

This works OK. Purchased when I upgraded my road bike handlebars to 31.8 mm diameter from the original 25.4 or 26; my nightrider light clamp wouldn't fit! I selected the Minoura over other products because I wanted the quick mount/release. The quick mount works fairly well; you can hand-tighten a small bolt on the clamp, then snap the lever down. Keep in mind that if you have an accessory with any weight, you'll need to clamp it pretty tight to prevent the mount from pivoting on your bar. I added a piece of a rubber bike tube to the clear plastic gripper they provided to make it more "grippy", and to prevent marring the handlebar when cinched down. My biggest complaint about this holder is the size of the accessory bar, which (I believe) is just 22 mm diameter. In order to mount the bracket for my bike light, I needed to wrap several pieces of rubber around the accessory bar. I still have problems with the light bracket moving on the accessory bar during my morning road rides, both when I encounter rougher stretches of pavement and when descending at 30-35 mph. I think I can overcome this with even more rubber, but I am mystified by the narrow diameter (are any lights or bike computer brackets sized this narrowly?).

Pros: Quick release; allows you to mount your light more to the front of the bike; plenty of space for 2-4 accessories.
Cons: Extra plastic or rubber needed to ensure lack of movement on the handlebar and accessory bar side; tiny accessory bar diameter.
