It's a stem. It's reasonably priced and holds your handlebars. It could probably hold other things, like a barbel, or a broom handle. I have this stem on two bikes. It hasn't blown up, caught on fire, or anything like that on either bike. I'd say that it's been a great success!

30mm interior dimension is for 1 1/8" steerer tube. Using this with an old Cane Creek S3 headset. No supplier lists any crown race available for the S3, but this is the one.

FYI, to mount it, you don't need to pay a shop or buy an expensive Park Tool. Go the hardware store, buy a length (at least 2 feet) of 1 1/4" interior diameter PVC pipe. I bought a 5 foot length for about $3.50. 1 1/4" fits over the 1 1/8" steerer tube and rests on the crown race perfectly. Use a soft mallet and tap it into place. Also, smear a little good grease on the the steerer tube where the race will sit, so you have some chance of getting it back off someday if you need to. If you don't, water will get in there, it'll corrode and that will basically weld the race to the tube, and you'll never get it off without destroying it.

Soma Cross Urban Levers 24.0 Silver Review

I bought these Soma Cross levers for one reason, and one reason only - they were the only high-polish, all-silver cross levers I could find in the size I needed for my application. As far as I know, there is no alternative product which meets those criteria. I've used various Soma products in the past, and these are no different - elegantly and precisely constructed, very smooth action, and a perfect fit.

That being said, they're not substantially better than the comparable Tektro, Nashbar, Forte, et cetera cross levers that are out there, so given the substantially-higher price tag, they may not be the smartest buy. I'd recommend them if you also need an all-silver lever, if the small quality improvements are worth the extra money to you, or if you'd simply rather have a Soma badge on your levers.

I'm completely satisfied with them from a practical standpoint, but on the value for money point, they might miss the mark a little.

Correction: for the distance tourer who hates flats.

I hate flats. So I ride with armor: puncture resistant tubes, Mr Tuffy tube protectors, and these tires. My last tires were Continental Contacts, which are also quite good (1000 miles without a flat), but I wanted even more armor. So I traded up to these. So far, so good: 1000 + miles of very hard city and state road riding (=broken glass, nails, odd scraps that you just can't avoid) and going strong. This is not a super-light tire. But in exchange for a little more weight, you get great traction and best of class defense aginst flats. Best tire I've ridden on yet. Not just best tire for-the-money. Best tire for loaded long distance tours period.

Just installed it today...holds bikes great!
Pros: I have all carbon frame road bike and then we have my 4 year olds bike with training wheels. So there was enough clearance to put these right next to each other with no interference at all! Also plenty of padding on top clamp that holds down on my carbon frame (gentle but still super secure). Also there was plenty adjustment to put both these bikes right next to each other. VERY heavy duty! Comes with a lock for each bike ( built in) and a lock for the hitch pin.

Cons: I did have to remove a screw on the clamp pole to rearrange the two clamps so that the adult road could be put closest to tail gate (07' Jeep Commander). Then put the screw back in...two sec fix. The hitch lock works as long as the washer is not used.
(Reese hitch). One of the cables that is attached to the swing lock pins was broke. The pin is always in one of two positions so not a real big deal...just keeps pins from getting lost.

Update:
After using this on our first trip, I would highly recommend this bike rack! Works perfect!
The best part is all FIVE locks are built into rack...no dangling wire with lock to deal with...
Also just an FYI, the hitch lock works by just pressing it on, the key is then required to RELEASE the lock off the hitch pin.
If it does latch onto pin by just pressing it on, remove the washer to make more of the shaft available.
