Shimano Tourney SL-TX50 Shifter Set, 3(SIS) x 7-Speed, Silver/Black Review

Put this pair of shifters on a fat tire 3x7 speed cruiser I built out of a mountain bike frame that used older Shamano front and rear derailers from the 90's, and a new 3 piece alloy crank/chain rings set. So this bike is a bit of a Frankenstein of 90's and contemporary parts. To my surprise, the shifters worked perfectly!

The front shifter is a tad stiff, but it will loosen up with use. After the derailer was adjusted, there was no noise caused by the derailer rubbing the chain no matter now many times gears were changed with the sifter.

The rear derailer was a snap to adjust. Just follow the included directions (magnifying glass needed! LOL!). The best feature is the rear shifter has a thumb push button that lets you shift from 1-7 with just the push of the button. No grabbing of levers to shift up. The lever is specifically designed to be pushed down through the gears (7 to 1) with your thumb, and that works great too. Smooth and easy.

New stainless steel inner cable is included with the shifters. They were long enough to work on my cruiser with wide swept back handle bars. (outer cable jacket is not included)

Note: if the rear shifter skips a gear or two when shifting with the push button, the cable is too short causing too much stress when the derailer is adjusted. Let out another 1/4 inch of cable, and re-adjust the derailer max in/out settings and it will be a pleasure to have push button shifting. And its faster than if you had to pull the lever with your finger!!!

Word of caution: do not force shift the rear shifter up through the gears. It will chew up the mechanism. Use the push button. Thats what it is there for.
