Dimension Value Series 2 26" Rear Wheel Shimano RM60 Alex DC19 32h Review
From the time I ordered, it took about 3 days lead time for them to ship. The item comes well packaged (see photo at un-boxing). Although a Shimano RM60 rear hub was listed, I actually received a Shimano RM70 hub. All other specs were as listed. The wheel arrived straight and true, without the need for any touch-up truing. The rim was the main reason why I bought this wheel. My old Mavik 138 rear rim from a 1998 Specialized FSR ripped out a spoke, and I wanted to make sure I bought a tough and durable wheel to replace it. This Alex DC19 RIM is double walled, making it heavier than many single wall rims. This wheel is built to support rim brakes, there are no disc brake mounts on this hub. Some specs not mentioned are as follows:- Outside Rim Width is 22.2mm
- Inside Rim lip to lip width is 16.3mm
- Outside Rim Brake surface is about 9.7mm tall
- Total Rim Height is 19.3mm
- Drilled for a Schrader valve, but comes with a rubber grommet to fit Presta valves.
- Comes with quick release skewer.
It does not come with rim strips or rim tape. Not absolutely required but recommended. If you get it, the Kenda 26 x1.75 Rim Strips (26" x 20mm) fits this perfectly once stretched into place. Although the inner lip width is 16.3, the inside of the rim is actually beveled down. The 20mm width tape fits exactly once stretched. The included rubber air hole grommet will need to be removed when using a Schrader valve inner tube, and I assume it is there to fill in the space when using a Presta valve tube.
Because the ISO diameter is 559, this rim will accept tires which are 26 x 1.00 through 2.3. I ended up using a Kenda 26 x 1.5/1.95 inner tube with a WTB 1.5 Slick inflated to 80psi for my rear wheel. Traction on the rear wheel is not as important as the front, and I just want it to glide with less resistance as I mostly ride on asphalt with some light packed dirt trails.
Pros:
- Low Cost
- Durability
- Shimano components
- Machine built and trued
- Assembled in the USA
Cons:
- The rear hub is not a silent type, although not unusually noisy, the clicks are quite audible
- Wheel is slightly heavier
Definitely a good value for someone seeking to replace a rear wheel that incorporates a 8/9/10 speed Shimano cassette. Good for all around riding, probably not the best for racing due to weight. So far the wheel has been quite bullet proof.
