FSA 48t Pro Road Chainring 110 10 speed Black Review

I have three FSA outer chainrings, a 46t, a 50t and this 48t. The FSA 110 BCD spider allows me to select one of these outer rings and gives me a choice of two inner rings, either a 34t or a 36t. The 48t with a 12t-25t cassette gives me a little more demanding ride than the 46t outer ring that I normally use. My focus is on keeping a moderate cadence with a relatively low heartrate (I am not a racer; I just love to ride and play with the bike). The chainrings are easy to change with a five and six millimeter allen key. Note that when I changed from a 50t chainring to the 46t I shortened the chain two inches. The shortened chain still works with the 48t chainring. Also note that with the smaller chainring that the front derailleur cage is higher than the recommended one millimeter above the chainring. The increased height does not affect the shifting on my bike between the outer and inner chainrings.

Excellent breathing, feels well made. The liner pad does not bunch up and stays right where its needed. I am a size 32 and these size mediums fit great but I have the velcro waist adjustment at its largest setting. Additionally, I thought the liner was removable, as in I could wear it with other shorts. The liner is sewn to the pants at the pack. I plan to cut them loose which looks easily doable. This just surprised me is all.

This is a simplified version of that used in bike shops. I was happy to add it to my arsenal of bike repair tools, but it does come up short on a couple of features. While it will help you true your wheel, it doesn't have a feature to help you make sure the hub is centered. The rim can be straight but off to the left or right of the hub. A simple carpenter's combination square can be used to accomplish this. Just place the base of it up against the stand and run the blade out as close as you can to the rim without touching it. Then flip the square over to measure from the other side. If both distances are equal, the hub is centered. The only other problem that I had with it was the bolts used to measure for true were bare on the ends. I wasn't wild about the idea of a end of a bolt scratching my rim. I just screwed a wire nut onto the end closest to the rim to give it a little padding. It also made it easier to view when truing. Overall, the stand was not bad for the money. The couple of fixes listed above would cost you under $10.00 total if you don't have them around the house already. It runs about half the price of the fancier, more professional stands, and if you are only going to use it a few times a year, it is easy enough to use. If you plan on using it daily, I'd upgrade to one of the more expensive stands.

Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 LS Bicycle U-Lock with Bracket (4-Inch x 11.5-Inch) Review

This is big. And heavy. But definitely worth it. The long length is nice for awkward placement when looking to sturdy objects--long reach. The key action is smooth for locking and unlocking is smooth. There is a little key hole cover that can keep the area relatively clean and free of debris--- although I haven't left my bike and lock outside for a whole Seattle winter/spring season and I don't plan to do so.

I specifially purchased this lock for the insurance. Be sure to read the instructions on the box of the lock. This is where all the info is. Kryptonite has very vague information on their website about this which I believe they do for their own advantage. Basically their are several hoops to jump through to both register a bicycle and to file a claim. I suggest contacting Kryptonite directly if you have any questions. They quickly responded to my questions in about 1-2 days, as well as follow up questions.

Here are the basics to understand about their policy(again, you should confirm this with Kryptonite):
1) completed the Anti-theft Registration form that's included in the lock's instructions (this includes the lock key registration number)
2) the Kryptonite lock bill of sale (mine was a copy of the Amazon invoice/receipt)
3) an authorized bike shop receipt or appraisal for declared current value only--does not include accessories or tax
4) proof of bicycle registration with local authority (police,campus,etc)
5) and a check for $10 (2 years of coverage) or $15 (3 years). The 1st year is FREE. No more coverage after 3 years

NOTE: NY residents have a different policy/requirements: contact Kryptonite

For filing a claim, I don't know-- haven't been in that situation. I know you have to send Kryptonite the remnants of the failed lock. Probably a police report, too. I would personally add a bottle of my own tears.

Back to the lock-- yes, I recommend it to any friend. And don't leave your bike unattened without it. Unfortunately, if someone really wants to steal your bike and they have the equipmet to do so, you are SOL. Just be smart about where an when you lock your bike. This lock provides a little piece of mind.
