Satori Handle Stem Easy Up Review

This is an impressively designed product. The extension tube is 1" diameter and will slip *inside* your 1-1/8" steerer tube. You adjust how much of the extension tube is exposed by raising and lowering it. The smooth, round piece at the top of the extension tube is 1-1/8" diameter so your original stem can clamp onto the extension tube.

For someone who needs that length of potential extension, or requires easy adjustment (a bike ridden by many people?), this is a great part.

However, it's a bit overkill for the average person who might could live with Delta stem extender (or Satori Heads Up-1 or -4).

I gave it 3 stars, but I can see how someone who really needs something like this might give it 5 stars.

I would have given it more stars, but I'm disturbed by how the product isn't described with much depth or clarity. No examples. And, worse, it is described as requiring no special tools to install. That's a little misleading. It requires serious modification to your bicycle by pushing the (Aheadset) star-fangled nut to the bottom of your steerer tube (to make room for the extension tube to retract inside your steerer tube). That modification requires some serious pounding with a hammer and large-diameter rod (punch).

If you want to go back to your your original stem, you have to install a new star-fangled nut -- which does require a special tool. (And, if you want to remove the original star-fangled nut which was pushed to the bottom of your steerer tube, you have to drill it out.).

I hate to be too critical because I don't want to discourage creation of niche products like this. But, the lack of information regarding how this product operates, and especially its installation requirements is inexcusable. Someone clearly put a lot of effort into designing this product. The absence of effort into put into a description and illustration is striking.
