Stan's No Tubes Raven 700x35 Cyclocross Review
Not the very lightest, but in combination with alpha 340 rims, possibly the most dependable lightweight wheelset for cross - or at least very close, and good value. The ability to run lower pressures is nice, though for the mixed riding I do (mostly trails, some gravel) I don't need very low pressures so am not taking advantage of that ability.Key to getting it to mount well (even with Stan's Alpha 340s) is enough wrapping of the yellow (or other) tape. With one layer I couldn't get it to air-up. Stan's instructions do state 1-2 layers though. Upon adding another layer I could get them aired up quite easy. Following Stan's instructions for the sealant procedure, they stay aired up for a week, losing only a couple of PSI at this point.
The only drawback I find with the tire is that for my riding (hardpack trails) the side knobs are too tall, adding weight that I don't need, understanding that they also add traction - again, which I don't need excessively on the side. I could live with shorter knobs all around, but this height is likely a happy medium.
I'd recommend them overall simply as a clincher tire in their own right, but would especially recommend them if running a tubeless setup with Stan's Alpha rims.
