On Guard Doberman 12mm Cable Glo Combo Lock Review

This is our second Onguard combination cable lock. We have the non-coiling Akita 8041 which is the same cable thickness and length. The difference is the Doberman coils.

We purchased this lock as it was on clearance at a local store, so figured we could not pass it up as it is less than the price offered on Amazon.

We like the convenience of combination type lock for quick bike rides to the park or store where we are not gone long. In addition to the combination lock we use Akita 8044 cables to lock the other parts of the bike. We thread the 8044 cables onto the lock, which can be done with U-locks as well.

Our non-coil Akita 8041 has not failed us after 5 years and so far this Doberman is working well.

The only grip is the coiling lock is the difficulty to thread through the bike frame and wheel as compared to the non-coiling Akita.

We have keyed locks and prefer to use those when we commute and lock the bikes up for the day.

However, the convenience of the combination lock on a leisure bike ride is great when you don't want to worry about keys or forget your key.
