This is one of the fastest tires I've ever ridden. Very light, super low rolling resistance, and grip on hard pack to moderately loose dirt and rock is stellar. Once you get in the sandy stuff or the mud, well, you'll be wishing you'd bought a tire with big fat knobs.
As I ride outside of Albuquerque NM, and we get very little rain (almost none this year, sadly), this is a fantastic tire for most of the trails I ride. When it gets super loose, they can get a bit squirrel-y, but what can you really expect from a tire with this kind of tread? It's pretty easy to tell what it'll excel at, just by looking at it.

The reason I give it 4 stars is I ripped out a sidewall on my first one about 10 rides in (I ride around 15-25 miles per ride). Bummer. I thought the Protection would... well... 'protect' a bit better. But the rocks here are ruthless, so I honestly wasn't surprised. It lasted longer than the Specialized tire that came on the bike (it lasted all of 2 rides before I ripped a sidewall). C'est la vie, no?

Anyway, I'd recommend this tire to racers, and to anyone who wants a very light, fast-rolling tire. Just watch the sharp stones!
