I love the modular component of DT swiss for my mountain bike. With my Roval Control SL wheels with DT Swiss hubs I can ride pretty much any kind of wheel as they are quick to support the different transmissions and axel sizes with different hub bodies.

For my Specialized Epic all I had to do was get this 142mm x 12mm through axle and boom I had an XX1 cassette installed in minutes.

This works with all 142+ systems given the Specialized system is backwards compatible.
