Scalextric 1:32 Hypercars Limited Edition Set, DPR (C3169A) Review

Okay, if you have other Scalextric slot cars, you know what these are all about. This set of two are fully chromed and ready to roll, if you have an older style Scalextric track set. In my case, I have a fully digital Scalextric track capable of handling six cars concurrently. If you have a digital set, you will need to separately purchase the digital controllers for these cars. If you read the instructions carefully, you'll see that you will require two types. One is easy to install as its purely (remove one screw, unplug the cable, plug cable into replacement cover, slide in place and screw to close... done).

The Mercedes however is a whole different beast, and requires a bit more effort... for it you have to fully dissassemble the car, and follow some pretty detailed instructions to change the lead from the brushes to the power supply, install a small board with an led light through a hole in the base of the car, then wire the replacement circuit board to the motor. As the wires from the brushes are both the same colour, you need to temporarily hook up the wires and test it on the track to ensure that when you press the trigger it goes forward and not backward. If it goes forward, permanently solder your connections to the wires, screw the car back on the chassis and you're done. If it goes forward, just reverse the wire connections, solder, assemble and you're done.

A bit of extra effort, but I got through it in about half an hour.

Wonderful set, arrived in excellent condition, and love the way they look on the track. The Bughati has clear headlights red tail lights; the Mercedes has amber headlights and red tail lights. Really, really nice. Yes, I'd recommend... but for doing the hookups, make sure this is done by someone at least in their teens... not something for little kids to tackle.
